Senior Lecturer of Music Richard D. Hall, composed, record and performed the music for several screen-dance films that were recently featured at multiple film festivals.
“Being Together” (2020) is a collaborative screen-dance work between Hall, Texas State University Dance video-choreographer Ana Baer, the Texas State University Merge Dance Company, and the Body Shift Collective, an Austin, TX, based dance company specializing in mixed-ability improvisational dance. The film was selected into the COCO Dance Festival Online 2021 based in Port of Spain, Trinidad; the BIDEODROMO International Experimental Film Festival based in Basque Country in northern Spain; Brazil’s International Disability Film Festival in Assim Vivemos, Rio De Janeiro; the Ordinary Day Film Festival in Stockholm, Sweden; the Petit Plan: Americana Film Festival powered by the Hellenic American Union in Athens, Greece; the Ziel Spring Dance Film Festival in Brooklyn, NY; and was selected into the Macao “Rollout” Dance Film Festival Award Finalist Screening at the Casa Garden in Macao, China.
“The Way We Are in Space” (2020) is a collaborative screen-dance work between Hall, and Texas State University Dance faculty members Ana Baer (directing) Michelle Nance, Kaysie Seitz Brown, and Nicole Wesley (choreography/dancing ). The film was selected to the QUARANTINE EXHIBITION of the Hibrido Brazilian Videodance Festival, based in São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil.
“THULE” (2018) is a collaborative screen-dance work between Hall , German dancer/choreographer Heike Salzer, and Texas State University dance video-choreographer Ana Baer. Hall was one of the featured composers for film. The film was accepted into Haiku Festival in The Hague (Netherlands); the São Carlos Videodance Festival (MIVSC), based in São Paulo, Brazil; the Retro Avant Garde Film Festival Venezia 2021, based in Venezia, Italy where it won Best Original Music Short Film; the International Moving Film Festival, based in Abadan, Iran; the Parana International Film Festival, based in Argentina; and the Kinam, International Different Film Festival in Mexico.
“Shift” (2018) is a collaborative screen-dance work between Hall, Texas State University dance video-choreographer Ana Baer, Texas State University Dance faculty members Pat Stone, Brandon Gonzalez, and dancer Nan Simms. The film was selected to the the Poetics of Aging Festival, a weekend of performance and conversation initiated by Jimena Bermejo, Director of Dance Program, College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA; and the Miradas a Través del Tiempo (1st International Film Festival on Aging), in Montevideo, Uruguay.
“Wild-er-ness” (2017) is a collaborative screen-dance work between Hall, German dancer/choreographer Heike Salzer, Texas State University Dance Department Head Michelle Nance, and Texas State University dance video-choreographer Ana Baer. The film was presented at the Launch of the The Centre for Research in Arts and Creative Exchange (CRACE), University of Roehampton, London.
