Texas State University School of Music Artist in Residence, Dr. Craig Hella Johnson, and his Austin-based vocal ensemble Conspirare received their tenth GRAMMY® nomination in the Best Choral Performance category for their new album The Singing Guitar ahead of the 64th annual GRAMMY® awards.

The Singing Guitar, released under the Delos label, features works by composers Reena Esmail, Nico Muhly, Kyle Smith, and Craig Hella Johnson inspired by Native American and Non-Native pioneer women. Conspirare collaborated with the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Texas Guitar Quartet, Austin Guitar Quartet, and cellist Douglas Harvey for this performance.

“I am so proud of all of the artists and collaborators who invested their souls in this recording,” says Dr. Craig Hella Johnson. “What a delight to celebrate choral music in this category with so many esteemed colleagues and friends.” Dr. Tim O’Brien, Lecturer of Voice at Texas State University, is among these colleagues performing in Conspirare.

Conspirare was awarded the GRAMMY® for Best Choral Performance in 2015.
