The Texas State Mysterium for New Music Ensemble recently performed in Rochester, NY, at the College Music Society’s (CMS) Sixty-Fourth Annual National Conference in association with the Association for Technology in Music Instruction (ATMI).

The performance titled “Beautiful Sounds,” was a laptop septet soundscape celebrating the sight and sounds of the San Marcos River. The work was composed and realized by all members of the ensemble and consisted of sectionalized, structured improvisations utilizing recorded sound-samples taken from the San Marcos River. These samples were performed via real-time manipulations on certain parameters with real-time controlled digital video art. Ensemble members included senior Luke Frost and graduate students Stephen Adkisson, Stephan Arce-Penedo, Adam Koch, Ella Pedrozo, and Thomas Torres. The ensemble is directed by Senior Lecturer of Music Richard D. Hall.
