Dr. Martin McCain had a busy summer, beginning with performing in the conference big band at the International Society of Jazz Arrangers and Composers May 11-14. He was invited to play several subscription concerts as guest bass trombonist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra throughout the ’21-’22 season, and spent several weeks with the ensemble during the summer.
June 7-8, he was a guest artist at the North Texas Trombone Camp and then traveled to Victoria to play in the Victoria Bach Festival Orchestra June 9-11. A few days later, McCain traveled from coast to coast, first playing a recital in Avon Park, Florida for an enthusiastic audience of 500 on June 16th and then flew to California to perform at the Hollywood Bowl for a live Juneteenth CNN broadcast. On June 22nd, he played the Austin leg of legendary tenor Andrea Bocelli’s world tour to a sold-out crowd at the Moody Center. He was also a headlining artist at the International Trombone Festival, where he presented a recital, performed with three faculty trombone choirs and was a panel discussion panelist.
