Introducing Catalyst, a New Faculty Workgroup

Texas State University Artist-in-Residence, Dr. Craig Hella Johnson, is spearheading a new two-year faculty workgroup called Catalyst. The primary focus of Catalyst is tackling issues of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within the School of Music. Dr. Johnson is joined this year by faculty and staff visionaries including Utah Hamrick, Adah Jones, Daveda Karanas, Martin McCain, Ludim Pedroza, Caroline Steiger, and Danton Bankay. Catalyst aims to present a theme and activities that complement the University’s campus-wide Common Experience program to help further the workgroup’s goals.

Amongst other things, Catalyst envisions activities which will help:

    • To foster awareness and sponsor meaningful opportunities and shared experiences for learning and discussion for students and faculty;
    • To provide constructive and meaningful ways for students to communicate with faculty and administration and to serve as a liaison;
    • To provide a forum for students’ voices with regards to all matters related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
