Dr. Martin McCain

Dr. Martin McCain has maintained an active performance and teaching schedule despite the pandemic.

He presented virtual recitals for the Austin Chamber Music Center’s Chamber Connect Series, the Michigan based 5pm Series via Facebook Live and the Boston based Groupmuse. Dr. McCain also performed live concerts for Austin’s Beerthoven Concert Series. His virtual recording projects included collaborations with the Gateways Music Festival Orchestra, Black Excellence Trombone Choir and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. McCain was interviewed on three podcast episodes: That’s Not Spit, It’s Condensation Ep. 67 and The Musician’s Guide to Being Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise Ep. 74 and 78. He discussed various topics from what it means to be a modern musician to social justice issues in America.

McCain led several online workshops in collaboration with the Texas Trombone Institute and International Trombone Hang. He presented a lecture “How to Succeed as a Professional Musician” for the Memphis Youth Symphony and gave a FB Live clinic for the S.E. Shires Instrument Company. Dr. McCain was also invited to lead virtual masterclasses at the University of Toronto, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory (Singapore), Mahidol University (Thailand), University of Georgia, Vanderbilt University and the University of Hartford.

McCain hosted several guest artists to work with TXST trombone majors including: Colin Williams (NY Philharmonic), Peter Steiner (International Soloist), Amanda Stewart (St. Louis Symphony), Brian Hecht (Atlanta Symphony), James Markey (Boston Symphony), Ken Thompkins (Detroit Symphony), Marques Young (Malaysian Philharmonic), Vanessa Fralick (Toronto Symphony), and Weston Sprott (Metropolitan Opera).

Recently, McCain was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Austin Chamber Music Center.
