Dr. Cynthia Gonzales Discusses Music Theory Pedagogy at National Events

This summer, Dr. Cynthia I. Gonzales is the only music theorist delivering invited keynote talks at both national events on the topic of music theory pedagogy.

Over Memorial Day weekend, Dr. Gonzales delivered an invited keynote presentation at Pedagogy Into Practice 2019 (https://jmtp.appstate.edu/conference) in Santa Barbara, CA.

As pictured, her talk focused on utilizing SmartMusic (www.SmartMusic.com) for aural skills, because it allows students to practice and improve their skills in private. She also previewed her exercise designs that will be published in the software later this year, making her materials available to all SmartMusic subscribers.

For the week of June 24, she will be in residence at UMass-Amherst as one of four invited faculty for the Workshops in Music Theory Pedagogy (https://www.umass.edu/music/workshops-music-theory-pedagogy#details). Each day, she will lead a session on a different pedagogical topic.

In between her presentations in CA and MA, she will travel to Kansas City, MO to grade AP Music Theory Exams June 10-18.
