Hank Hehmsoth and Thomas Clark teamed up for a Musicians Forum presentation “Secrets of Professional Success” Thursday September 25 at the new TxState Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. As a closing surprise, Clark made his “vocal debut” at Texas State singing “Smoke Gets in your Eyes” accompanied by Hehmsoth’s inimitable piano styling.
Musicians Forum was followed by the first Somos Musicos concert of the year and the first ever in the new hall. An audience of more than 100 listened to 10 students: Sigifredo Santana, marimba; Elizabeth Mora and Luis Corpus Jr., clarinet; Belinsol Martinez Munoz, cello; Jorge Briceno Gonzalez, piano; Ahmet Onur Alakavuklar, guitar; and Ilanna Tariff and Jenna Crowell, voice. They performed music by Beethoven, Verdi, and four modern composers. The performers were able to use effectively the exquisite acoustics of the hall to expand their dynamic range down to delicate and yet still clearly audible pianissimos. Bravi to all!
