The Texas Music Educators Association 2018 Clinic/Convention in San Antonio featured a strong presence by the School of Music.
Outstanding performances by TXST ensembles drew huge audiences and presented sublime artistry:

with Vanguel Tangarov, Lynn Ledbetter, Ames Asbell, Karla Hamelin, Utah Hamrick, Kari Klier, and former faculty member Soon Cho
Ames Asbell, Caroline Steiger, John Lopez, Mary Ellen Cavitt, and Kyle Glaser gave well-attended, Impressive expert clinics.
Amanda Soto, John Denis, and students of Rebecca Tast presented intriguing research posters.
TXST’s very popular college exhibit booth and fabulous Alumni Reunion were coordinated by Krystyn Jensen.
Adah Jones, Caroline Steiger, Charles Hurt, Lynn Ledbetter, Keith Winking, Jordan Stern, and Ian Davidson provided expert judging or coaching of All-State sections.
Instrumental music studies major Emily Gazeley recently was awarded the Texas Music Educators Association Collegiate Music Educator Award for an outstanding future teacher. Emily is currently student teaching. Congratulations go also to all of the faculty who worked with her during her studies here.
Texas State was well represented in San Antonio for the recent Texas Music Educators Association annual Clinic/Convention. Faculty who performed, presented or presided included Mary Ellen Cavitt, Lynn Brinckmeyer, Amanda Soto, Keith Winking, Jonathan Babcock, John Schmidt, and Teaching Assistant Jack Wilds. Adah Jones, Charles Hurt, Caroline Steiger, Lynn Ledbetter, Ian Davidson, Mary Ellen Cavitt, and Keith Winking judged or led All-State sectionals.
Lynn Ledbetter received the Phyllis Young Outstanding Studio Teacher from the Texas Chapter of the American String Teachers Association.
Todd Oxford, Martin McCain, and Jack Wilds were endorsers at company exhibit booths. The School of Music’s booth looked fantastic and got tremendous attention and traffic, with major staffing by Krystyn Jensen and Al Corley. The Alumni Reunion hosted by Director Thomas Clark was a fun party. Kudos to Krystyn Jensen who organized these two major components of our presence at TMEA.
By all measures, TMEA was a huge success for Texas State School of Music.
Keith Winking conducted TMEA Region 28 Jazz Band in Harlingen this past weekend.
